Camphor wood Military chest, circa 1890

A superior campaign chest, which would have been made in China for a high-ranking officer or colonial administrator in the late 19th century. This is an opportunity to buy a chest of this type at a reasonable price, as it comes in unrestored original condition straight from a property. When the drawers are opened it still retains the original perfumed aroma of Camphor wood. As can be seen in the illustration the central upper section has a pull out Secretaire drawer which folds over to form a writing surface fitted with various compartments and pigeon holes.
