Superb quality Victorian stationery box circa 1875

Superb quality Victorian stationary box circa 1875.
The brass bound hinged lid with a vacant cartouche, opening to a sloped leather writing service which hinges to reveal a secret compartment which is activated by a spring mechanism enclosing an arrangement of three drawers, shown in the illustration. This superb example comes complete with brass lidded inkwells . Boxes of this quality with finely figured veneers would’ve been made for an important personage and would only have been found in the finest of homes. Ht 17, W 35, D24 cms.
